Many university projects involve existing historic stock. We work with conservation officers and heritage consultants to balance the performance standards a modern research or teaching environment demands — energy efficiency, accessibility, acoustic privacy — against the obligation to preserve the fabric and character of listed buildings. New build and sensitive refurbishment are managed as a single coherent project, not as two separate contracts.
