Tunnels
Underground infrastructure engineered for the long term.
We deliver road, rail, and utility tunnels using bored, cut-and-cover, and mined techniques — designed for ground conditions, waterproofed to the required standard, and built with continuous geotechnical monitoring to protect surface structures above.
Overview
What We
Build
Tunnel construction demands the highest standards of geotechnical engineering, temporary works design, and construction quality management. Ground conditions dictate the method; the method dictates the risk profile; and continuous monitoring during construction keeps that risk profile under control. We bring the experience and discipline that tunnelling demands — from detailed ground investigation and shaft construction through to secondary lining and handover.
Whether the application is a road tunnel through a city centre, a rail tunnel under a hill, or a utility crossing beneath a major river, we select and execute the most efficient method for the ground and geometry — while maintaining the watertightness and structural integrity that underground infrastructure must achieve.
Capabilities
What We Deliver
Bored Tunnels
TBM and hand-mined bored tunnel construction with segmental or in-situ concrete lining — designed for the ground conditions, water table, and long-term durability required.
Cut-and-Cover Tunnels
Propped excavation, in-situ concrete box construction, and backfilling for shallow tunnels in urban environments — minimising impact on surface infrastructure above.
Immersed Tube
Precast concrete tube sections floated out, sunk, and joined for water crossings where bored tunnelling is uneconomical — an efficient solution for wide estuarial crossings.
Tunnel Linings & Waterproofing
Segmental pre-cast lining installation, in-situ secondary lining construction, and waterproofing membrane installation — achieving the watertightness standard the tunnel use demands.
Process
From Investigation
To Handover
Ground Investigation
Detailed ground investigation — boreholes, in-situ testing, and lab analysis — to characterise soil and rock conditions that will govern the tunnelling method and lining design.
Shaft Construction
Launch and reception shaft construction using sheet piling, contiguous bored pile walls, or secant piles — providing safe working access and a stable environment for TBM launch.
Tunnel Drive
Controlled tunnel advance with continuous monitoring of ground settlement, lining convergence, and face pressure — ensuring surface structures above remain undisturbed.
Secondary Lining
In-situ concrete secondary lining construction, waterproofing, drainage installation, and internal fit-out — completing the permanent tunnel structure ready for handover.
